Catfish Nuggets vs. Fillets
Everyone that loves catfish on the dinner table knows that there are catfish nuggets and then there are catfish fillets. They both provide a delicious taste, but there a few differences that the opposing sides would declare to make one or the other the best.
Catfish Nuggets are Smaller
Catfish nuggets are not from the meatiest part of the fish, but they still have a decent amount of meat on them. Often, these are the parts that are trimmed off. They still have plenty of meat on them, so people feel that it would be a waste to throw them out.
Fillets are Better for the Grill
Catfish fillets can easily be baked or pan-fried, but they also taste amazing on the grill. They are the perfect size to guarantee that they will turn out perfectly. Catfish nuggets, on the other hand, are better off being just pan-fried or baked in a baking dish due to their smaller size. They will burn easier, are more likely to shrink and become smaller when cooked, and some of them are so small they will not fit well on the top of a grill without aluminum foil.
Nuggets are Cheaper
Most people opt for catfish nuggets because they are significantly cheaper than catfish fillets. At most supermarkets, nuggets can be purchased for half the price of fillets, yet they are both catfish meat. Of course, the price difference will vary depending on the market, but most people can trust that fillets will be more expensive.
Catfish Fillets Are Easier to Thaw Out
People that use these for bait or dinner both declare that catfish fillets are easier to thaw out. This is because some catfish nuggets are thicker than others, so it will naturally take them longer to thaw out than their thinner fillet counterparts.
Nuggets Cook Faster
When a person wants a quick snack, catfish nuggets are the way to go. These tiny morsels of goodness are smaller, so they do tend to cook faster, making them a preference for anyone that wants something quick and easy to cook.
Different Taste
More people tend to prefer the taste of the catfish fillet over the catfish nugget. They both taste like catfish, yet somehow taste different. This is because the nugget is often abdominal muscle, which has a different taste than the fillet does. This can also give it a slightly different texture.
While more people do prefer a fillet taste, there are still plenty of consumers that appreciate a fried catfish nugget more than anything else at a fish fry. This is an individual opinion, and someone must try both to really decide which one they prefer.
Catfish nuggets and fillets both have their place as both an appetizer or the main course. They are nutritious, offer a distinct taste and they both are perfect for different people or things. Catfish nuggets may cook quicker and be easy to eat with the fingers, but there is also nothing that looks better than a perfectly cooked fillet.
